Often times people go to watch a movie trusting reviews out in the internet. The ratings matter but there is a great chance of the ratings being manipulated. We know someone gave a review but we don't know the exact person who gave the review. A pattern develops over time and now a new pattern is seen to emerge. This pattern is of reviews by trusted friends . Have been using Facebook for quite sometime and what has happened is once a movie performs well in the theatres immediately a handful of your friends will share a positive review or a negative one. If we closely watch it we see that if there is a positive vibe around the movie it can be definitely trusted. We can be sure that that movie will not dissapoint you. Of course there are exceptions to this. Some stories may not be appealing to someone even though the reviews are good. Some stories may be interesting even if the reviews are bad. However in majority of cases if you closely watch facebook updates of your trusted friends you can decide whether to go for a movie.

Sat, 05 Jan 2013 11:12:00 -0800 Music tunes n connection http://riturajbhuyan.posterous.com/short-music-video-n-product http://riturajbhuyan.posterous.com/short-music-video-n-product

As I wrote in one previous blog how videos are used to make viral campaigns. As comapnies face tremendous competition a product needssomething other than the product or the service itself to appeal to a mass audience. The best way in todays social media/youtube world is to create videos which go viral which results in a maximum number of audience viewing it. Another way is to create tunes.

Musicnotes
Want to mention the examples of 2 companies whose tunes have gone viral really . First one is the Airtel's Jo tera he wo mera he..  went viral. Idea's Honey Bunny.. went viral..both in Youtube  in the television sets. Immediately the tune connects we relate it to  idea or airtel. Think this way any company can really make a viral marketing campaign with a tune people connect to. But the challenge lies in the tune itself. Not all tunes are connecting.!

Tips-for-great-content

Few ways to create great social media traffic & connect!

1. Create great content:  Viewers will come to you.  Someone said that day we are not short of information we are are short of attention. Some websites have tremendously great traffic. Some Channels have a tremendously great viewers. Why ? Answer is Tremendously great content that attract viewers to come back again n again and again!  As someone said Dont find customers for your product, find product for your customers is so true. Create super content.

2. Create great videos:  Video is great. Its like real life viewing. Some organizations make so nice videos. Simply spell bound by the quality.  Personally learning the craft of making good videos. A simple video I made in Kerala. Connect to people in a video. :-)

Travel_@_Athirapally.mp4 Watch on Posterous

3. Create great podcast :  I love this new idea of  a podcast. We still love the FM Radio City Bangalore right! Thats the power of an audio. Podcasts are great new way to stream audio.

Here's a blog I wrote about podcasting.

http://riturajbhuyan.posterous.com/podcasting#more

4. Create great Infographics: Photos are good.  Infographic are even better.  See some infographics @ http://www.coolinfographics.com/

5. Connect through Skype.:  Very often we connect via tweets or facebook. Ask if the person is reaady for a Skpe conversation. This will do real 360 degree change in social media connections.

Keep posting, Keep tweeting.

above all Share. More then a decade ago  high school teacher Xavier Sir wrote in my diary about Sharing.  He wrote " Thow little roses n concern for others to pick as you journey through life, for others to enjoy ,see how they radiate ~beaming smiles ~ you will see that your smiles are greater then theirs .Life means sharing "

See the pic of his note for me:

Sat, 05 May 2012 11:52:00 -0700 Neilsen Study http://riturajbhuyan.posterous.com/social-media-presence http://riturajbhuyan.posterous.com/social-media-presence

Social media has become great platform for companies to build the brand . A recent study conducted by Neilsen Company showed how companies can build a cool brand on the social platform.

3275_indiasocialmedia_chart3

As social media presence increased brand engagement though social media  also  increased.  The Neilson study made a good analysis on what  online offers consumers expect from the brands Here's an infographic.

Sasa

This study was very much India-centric(carried on around 3O million online users) and the comprehensive analysis revealed that social growth means more brands in this part of the world.  Interesting isn't it. The social trend has just evolved a few years back , however it is picking up fast. Another study Norton revealed that Indians on an average spend around 9 hours/ week in social media alone.

Studying customer behaviour in the social platform seems to be the Next step. Hope this will help in understanding the  Indian consumer & branding issues in the social space.

Thanks for reading.

Tue, 20 Mar 2012 09:45:00 -0700 The Super Active User http://riturajbhuyan.posterous.com/the-super-active-user http://riturajbhuyan.posterous.com/the-super-active-user

Twitter_followers_are_making_your_facebook_fans_look_bad
Wanted to share a pattern I found after studying the  activity of the around of 1000 Twitter users. I have found that there are three  types of twitter users. One is partially active and other one is partially passive. Most twitter users are partially passive. Only a few are partially active. And  the third one is  the  super active . They are almost daily active.  The idea is to connect with the super active users rather the other two types.

Few traits of super active users are as follows

1. Super active twitter users tweet on a daily. basis and keeps the hopes of their followers alive

2. Most of the super active twitter users share useful content & has a sense of community.

3.  Most of them inspire their followers

4. In fact some of  world renowed celebrities, industry leaders, experts, authors are super active users. We have to just search them and follow them if we need to get wisdom and a daily stream of inspiration.

5. They are on the look out to make relationships, friendship & even business. So its a great opportunity to make a connection with them.

6. I personally have benefitted a lot from them and recommend my  friends  to look for super active users if we want to really make a connection. Most of my followings are super active twitter users.

So it not worth to connect with both the partially passive and partially active users as they will not share or connect daily keeping the followers hopes down. And eventually will get you disappointed.

So remember the Super Active User. Connect with them soon.

Yours sincerely

Sm_management_1

The Paradox of Choice  is that too much choice without clear differentiation has made customers life miserable notes author Barry Schwartz. And with more choice there is lesser & lesser satisfcation. Everywhere we go online or offline we see something trying to catch our attention may be by ads, business cards, posters, television ads and so on.  And very often we  ignore those messages.  Why? Becuase there are so many. So many similar kind of businesses hitting us every day with no one to trust. The air waves have become really polluted.  And people or businesses are trying to differentiate themselves by developing stronger audience and customer base for their businesses. Analyzed how the customer bases which are being nurtured have formed a community relationship with the businesses  leading to massive sales. Why is this relationship  becoming increasingly essential? The Number 1 reason is that since these communities are being nurtured people have a fondness for that brand or company.  And when they are seeing that company is fulfilling their needs they also form their buying decisions based on it.  For eg, if yo go to Facebook Fan page of a corporation or a small business  you will see some of the businesses are feeding their community so well that when it comes to buying decisions the buyer gives number1 preference to them. And this is what it is happening. We can see how Dell is creating that relationship, engaging customers , taking customer feedback to drive sales   http://www.facebook.com/dell  . Recently Dell reported a 6.5 million sales through Twitter itself. It's amazing to see that some companies are utilizing the free social media so well. They are not only giving information about their product but also giving value added content to the community going a step further. The behavioural economics of people are changing dramatically.  And so it has become imperative for businesses to create community relationship.  For small businesses it has become almost mandatory.  It is really hard to create that, however if created  community relationship based on loyalty and trust will be major differentiator for driving sales.

Have a wonderful Sunday

Talent-hunt-small

Although we make friendship with people from different walks of life, in most cases people it is seen that people who have shared passions  stay for a long time. Its the passion that binds them together. Therefore it is very much necessary to  connect with people who have shared passions. For example our mobile software people are eager to connect to one another. Therefore we joined a similar company.  That day we attended a Mobile  India event @ Bangalore and was able to meet industry folks passionate about mobile. Again one person can have more than one passions like leadership & personal development, social media , photography , financial mastery , human resources, social outreach  etc. So how can we find those persons or groups without going to a real conference  & just by sitting @ home. The hunt for the people with shared passion has led me find some interesting places you can look for.  The first place to hunt for those groups is Facebook the giant forest with 800 million people.  Go to Facebook & Search for terms related to your passion. For example say Social Media The second place for hunting people is  Blog Search provided by Google. http://www.google.com/blogsearch   Lastly you can find  Twitter Search. Just type the keyword & you can follow your tribe.   Once you find the groups & people start listening to them, comment  on their posts and eventually you will connect.  And just dont forget to connect them @live conferences.  And not to forget the smiles , giggles & connection @ office. That group of shared passions should  be the group you should be looking for.

Thanks & regards

Take care

Fri, 03 Feb 2012 20:07:00 -0800 Listen http://riturajbhuyan.posterous.com/listen http://riturajbhuyan.posterous.com/listen

Listen
I was almost blown away by the astounding views(around 1000 views)  to my blog titled Ask.  Now lets Listen.  Listening is a great virtue we can possess whether in life, business or in social media. Genuine listening generates respect, rapport and trust between talker and listener. Dont you just love your words to be heard ? And same is the case with others. In social-media if you are reading a blog writtten by a person & give a comment that person knows that you are listening & he/she connects with you. Giving a nice comment means you are listening :) Even a like means listening. One great social media tip is to listen to as many blogs as possible. Better listening means increased Productivity. Productivity will be higher and problems solved more rapidly. I have seen when you are clearly listening to your team mates solving a problem becomes simpler. And very often when others are talking we interrupt. We dont listen properly. Listen fully. If you we are listening carefully & fully you will see the results.

Thanks & warm regards

Have a great day.

Tue, 04 Oct 2011 10:00:00 -0700 The Agile manifesto http://riturajbhuyan.posterous.com/the-agile-manifesto http://riturajbhuyan.posterous.com/the-agile-manifesto

Agile-steps-process

In early days people used step by step  plan driven method of software development. However with increasing chaos at the market place to deliver products faster & quicker has led to a new methology implemented by some progressive software companies called agile development. "Agile methods  promotes adaptive planning, evolutionary development and delivery; time boxed iterative approach and encourages rapid and flexible response to change." -Wikipedia. For non-mission  critical software systems comprising of small teams  agile development is more suitable than traditional software engineering processes like the Waterfall model. For example the company where I work , Borqs International Holdings Corp, one of China's fastest growing technology companies implements this Agile model. http://www.borqs.com/newsinfo.aspx?NewsCateID=53&CateID=53&NewsID=438

And the good thing is that the agile management methods can be applied to other developmental projects other than software.

Adapt , evolve & deliver is the new mantra.

Search-icon
Had a great Saturday with my friends. I want to share with you something about search in relation to Twitter. When you search for a person's name in the search bar in Google. It is certain that you get almost all the person's with that name.  However, have you tried that in Twitter ? You will see that thats not the case. So, in Twitter if you are searching for  a person's name type  the name following the @  not the name given in the title. For eg type  bhuyanrituraj  as  @bhuyanrituraj  not Rituraj Bhuyan. Thats for a normal basic search.  If you want to search for a person, a topic but you are not able to find in the basic search you can try the Advanced Search mechanism in Twitter.  https://twitter.com/#!/search-advanced . If you want to see the highlights, news and twitter updates about a person you can use http://www.twazzup.com/ . In Twazzup also type bhuyanrituraj as @bhuyanrituraj. Our search is indexed by the word following @.  Furthermore, if you want to search for tweets on a particular topic say leadership you can use a very useful engine called http://www.hashtags.org/  . My tweet  on trendchange can be searched by just typing trendchange in the search bar and you will get the screen as shown below. This is a very useful tool as it will help us refine our search.

Hashtags
Thank you.

Search is interesting.

Social media sites, cell phones etc. has tied us together. However, we have seen that over-use of it leads to addiction. It also lessens our productivity.  Here is a video about Seoul , the worlds most wired city. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvM1fxhjWw0 . The electronic connections have connected them at the same time created a number of internet addicts. Thus, if possible we need to keep one day of the week as  tech -free day to make more direct human connections. I came across this idea when one of friend of mine Rob Castelluci, VP of marketing @ Room Sync & great salsa dancer shared this idea on Facebook.  I think weekends are the best for us to make more direct human connections. One day make some time to meet your loved ones.

Thank you,

Stay tuned.

Keep thinking , laughing & smiling

Respect

Albert Mehrabian, Professor Emeritus  of Psychology at UCLA ,  research noted that communication is 7% words, 38% voice tone and 55% body language.  This  7-38-55 rule is one of the most important rules in human communication. So we cannot express much in the form of words if the words are 140 character tweet or a small sentence in Facebook. 4 things to show respect to followers and following people  are

1. Using Leadership language in Social Media:  So, we need to avoid using words which are less than leadership language. We have seen people tend to misunderstand even if you are having fun.

2. If possible we need avoid sarcasm  as some people may get offended.

3. Also, if possible we  need respond  to our messages in Twitter and Facebook.

4. Furthermore, it is better for us to provide  beneficial content most of the time. However sometimes you can be a little humorous.

I am sorry if I had mistakenly offended anyone. I humbly take back my words.

Thank you & best regards

Twitter

Interesting new pattern I was able to findout in the field of Twitter & Facebook.  When you open twitter in the night,  you have a sense of who is online or who is offline. How? The twitterers  will always be tweeting about something they like or something about their businesses when they are online.  So, if you can give quality  content targeting those  followers at that time. They will immediately read it because they are in the mood of  reading or tweeting things at that time. And that moods set them to read.  I often read materials  of  the people I am following when I open my Twitter account at say 10 pm in the night. If you give post targeting them when they are offline. They may or may not read your post , and this will lead to a lesser conversion rate. Again in Facebook also you can know who is online by their activities. So, at that  moment, you should be ready with the material you want to share. I call this technique feed at the right time marketing.

Thank you for reading. Have a productive day

I have been exploring around the world and innovating new things. Growing a good network in Twitter is a great way to reach out to people. If we have a product to sell, we can of course do it  by increasing our number of follower base. In fact we can also post third party advertiser's ads in Twitter and there are sites, which are ready to pay you for it.  http://betweeted.com/  is one site which we may find it useful. The good thing is that twitter users can make money while maintaining 100% control over the content that they choose to share.

Let the earning begin!

Nowadays, we spend a good amount of  time in social media sites. However, are we  socially secure? If you find out that, somebody has hacked your account. The first thing to do is to lodge a complain to the cyber security cell. If they can't find out the culprit, then what will you do?  Social Security steps you should take are.

(a) Twitter Security : http://tweetake.com/ I have already backed up. Have you?

(b) Facebook Security : Download the secure backup to your machine.

Google predicts that only display advertising is going to be a $200 billion-dollar business within the next few years.  If you have a  personal or business blog/website, you may try to use Google Adsense  to put ads in your site to make some bucks. However, we have seen that Google's terms and conditions are very strict and as a result  many publishers cannot use Google Adsense in their sites. Most of the times they are denied from using ad sense. Alternative -two of my favorite sites are  http://chitika.com/ , an online advertising network  & http://www.bidvertiser.com  which I found to be quite useful. The good thing is that their terms and conditons are pretty loose. Thanks.

Don't you guys feel that day of mass marketing is over?  Now is the generation of customization or more personalized marketing. I was in a coffee bar in an India city that day. I saw something unique. In that bar, all kinds of  expressos & cappuccinos were there,  and at the same time I saw Mysore coffee. The coffee bar is giving us the flavor of cappuccino as well as  keeping a local touch. That's true in digital world also. Smart companies are making their mails, newsletters & blogs customized. And we like that. And when we like that we buy. Now think as a seller. Customize. Not only sell but give exquisite amount of value to customers

Thanks & have a great week ahead
